Lao Sun Jia
 
Xi'an has a strong Islamic tradition. This family-run restaurant produces delicious classic lamb and beef dishes. The house specialty-paomo, consists of spiced noodles and shredded lamb stew served with bread which is broken into the bowl before eating. Ba Bao Cha (Eight Treasure Tea), a mixture of tea, crystallized sugar, nuts and fruit, complements the food perfectly. Highly recommended.

 
Tang Yue Gong

Chang'an Lu, a restaurant offers an evening of entertainment, Tang Dynasty style. The excellent and unusual food is based on recipes dating back to the Tang imperial court, and is accompanied by ancient singing and dancing performances. Reservations are essential and no credit cards are accepted.

Dong Da Jie,the city's oldest and biggest restaurant serves up the local cuisine in a relaxed setting, though things get more formal upstairs, with banquet rooms available.

 
Wuyi Fandian

A small canteen outside this hotel
serves dumplings and steamed buns (mantou). The Wuyi also has a smarter third-floor restaurant specializing in Anhui and Jiangsu cuisine.

 
Minsheng Department Store
Minsheng Department Store has enjoyed a high reputation in northwestern China for its famous, excellent, new, special and comprehensive commodities.

 
Tangcheng Department Store

Located in the busy section of Dongda Street, Tangcheng Department Store began its business in 1984. It is a large state-owned mall and sells all kinds of commodities.

 
Van Arts and Crafts Industrial Company

It sells arts and crafts. The tri-colored glazed pottery of Tang Dynasty, and imitations of warriors and bronze chariots of Qin Dynasty show high work-manship. Its paintings by the farmers of Huxian County are also famous.

 
Wenbaozhai and Jingtailan (Cloisonne) Handicrafts Store

The former mainly sells the reproductions of warriors of the Qin Dynasty, eaves tiles of the Qin and Han dynasties, tri-colored glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty, rubbings from tablet inscriptions, metals and stone carvings, seals and so on. Jingtailan Store mainly sells cloisonne arts and crafts and gold ornaments. Each store has a processing factory in the backyard so tourists can also pay a visit to the factory while buying commodities from the stores.

 
Century Golden Flower Shopping Center

It has two stories, with an area of over 30,000 sq m. It sells more than 100,000 varieties of commodities famous in China and the world. It introduced several dozen kinds of world top-brand commodities to Xi' an for the first time. The shopping center has a special area selling famous-brand commodities made in China, Chinese and Western restaurants, a recreational area, a teahouse and a large supermarket.

Dongda Street

It is the most prosperous street crowded with specialized plazas and stores including the Tangcheng Building, Luomashi Garment Trading Market, Tanshi Street Vegetable and Non-staple Food Mall, Qianjin Shoes and Hats Store, Northwest Optical Store, Hengdeli Clock and Watch Store, and boutiques.

 
Jiefang Road
Jiefang Road, less than 2 km long, is one of the busiest Streets in Xi'an, with 500 commercial, service, catering and financial organs. The Minsheng Department Store and Jiefang Department Store sit on the Street.

 
The Wholesale Market on the Kangfu Road

It is the largest comprehensive wholesale market in northwestern China, radiating to 23 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China. Merchants and small retailers purchase and sell medicinal herbs, leather products, garments, agricultural and side-line products, and sundry goods in the market.

 
Beiyuanmen Tourism Commodity Street
To the north of the Drum Down, the Street has over 50 stores selling tourism souvenirs, and is the largest tourism commodity Street in Xi'an.

Shuyuanmen "Ming and Qing Street"

Shuyuan Street is the Ming and Qing Street constructed according to the architecture styles of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. In the Street, there are row upon row of stores selling ancient books, pottery and porcelain, rubbings of ancient paintings, tablet inscriptions and calligraphy, the four treasures of the study, etc.

 
Shaanxi Cuisine, also known as Qin Cuisine, is represented by Guanzhong, south Shaanxi and north Shaanxi cuisine styles. Shaanxi Province occupies an important position in the development history of Chinese culture. Its cooking techniques can be traced back to thousands year's age.

Due to its unique position in the Chinese history, Shaanxi chefs gathered all eating and cooking advantages from all over the country, and formed its own characteristics. Famous dishes include Bottle Gourd Chicken, Mustard and Upper Part of a Pork Leg, Walnuts Kernels and Guozi Fish in Milky Soup, Chicken Rice and Sea Cucumber, etc. It's also famous for the snacks, especially those from local Muslims. The most popular local snack is Yangrou Paomo (pancake in mutton or beef soup). A large bowl and one or two flat-baked bread cakes are served to the visitor, who breaks the cake into tiny pieces and then sends the bowl back to the kitchen, where a mutton or beef and vegetable soup, is poured over the broken pieces. Then the mixture is eaten along with pickled garlic cloves.

Another interesting culinary experience to be had in Xi'an is the Xi'an Dumpling Feast that was originated in the Tang Dynasty and developed in the last twenty years. There are a dozens of dumplings in different shapes served. They resemble duck, chicken, rose flower, walnut, pumpkin etc and different one contains different fillings, which make the dumplings not only tasty, but also nice-looking.

Snacks like Cold Noodles (Liang Pi) and Chinese Hambergers (Rou Jia Mo) are also quite famous, do remember to have a taste once you are in Xi'an.

One tip: large number of restaurants in xi'an are just marvelous even though they are not big or fascinating looking. Just ask locals or make up mind to try.
