5 Days Great Wall Hiking Tour

Great Wall of China was built to ward off enemies in ancient times. Over 6,000 kilometers long, the Great Wall is the symbol of the China. Today the Great Wall brings people from all corners of the world. It is a must see for anyone going to China

Hiking along the Great Wall, however, is substantially different from simply making the usual short visit. You will not only take a challenge physically, but also obtain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese history and culture, as well as mankidn creative power.

We arrange the tour for you to hike along the most historic and off beaten parts of the wall which are in ruin. You have the opportunity to visit and explore beautiful sections of the Great Wall that most people will never see.

Each day after breakfast, our private vehicle drop you at the beginning of a hike, transfers your luggage, and picks you up at the end of the hike. Our tour guide will escort your through all the hiking. We prepared several itineraries for your choice.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Huanghuacheng Great Wall (Lunch, Dinner)

---Hotel pick up at 8:30 in the morning by our English speaking tour guide and vehicle. Drive two hours to the Huanghuacheng Great Wall. It was so named for the abundant yellow flowers (in Chinese: Huang Hua) that bloom in midsummer. It is also known as the Great Wall under the Water, because three separate sections of the wall are submerged in the Xishuiyu Reservoir. It is famous for its harmonious mixture of the splendid wall, an awesome mountain and a great wide swath of water. This resort attracts the discerning visitor who wants to gad around off the beaten track. This part of the Great Wall is one of the most difficult sections for hikers. It is completely unreconstructed. The view as you climb to the top is stunning.
---Hiking on the east section of the Great Wall for about three hours. Then enjoy lunch at the local farmers’ restaurant.
---Rest of the day is free time. Hang out at the local village and enjoy the local life in the mountain.
---For dinner, our service people will bring the dishes to the Great Wall, you will enjoy the homing cooking dishes on the wall which watching the sunset, which can produce great pictures. At that moment it is quite and peaceful on the wall because probable you are the only person on the wall.
---Accommodation at local farmer’s hostel, which is nice and clean and equipped with private bathroom. The color TV has HBO, CNN, and ABC channel. Dinner is served with local flavor— barbecue Trout Fish.


 
     

Day 2: Huanghucheng Great Wall, Jiankou Great Wall (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

---Hiking on the west section of the Huanghuacheng Great Wall for about 4 hours. The west section of the Great Wall is a loop. Then return to the hostel and enjoy lunch. Pack everything you bring and get ready for the next stop, Jiankou Great Wall.
---Check in at the Jiankou Hotel first. Take a shower and rest of the day is your free time to look around. Next to the Jiankou Hotel, there is the largest trout fish cultivation center, whose fish is the resources for the trout fish in the city of Beijing and for the 2008 Olympic Games.


Day 3: Jiankou Great Wall (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

---Western Break at the Hotel.
---Heading for the Jiankou Great Wall. Due to its unique style, steep mountains and beautiful scenery, Jiankou Great Wall has become a photographic hotspot and also a hot travel destination these days. 'Jiankou', is translated as 'Arrow Nock' in English, because the shape of the mountain is like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock.
---The Jiankou Great Wall is about 3 hours hiking. Please prepare comfortable shoes.
---Picnic lunch on the Great Wall.
---Dinner at local restaurant.
---Spend the night at the best local hotel.

Day 4: Gubeikou-Jinshanling (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

--Pick up at your Jiankou hotel, transfer to the Gubeikou section of the Great Wall.
--Today we will hike for about 10km and it takes us about 5 hours on the way, if the weather is good you could see Miyun reservior and the Wangjing Tower in Simatai Section on the way. There is a military area where hiking on the wall is prohibited, you could have a nice walk into a nearby village and come back onto the Wall in Jinshanling section after the military area.
--Camping on one of the Watch Tower in Jinshanling Section of the Wall or staying in local family's home.


Day 5: Jinshanling-Simatai (Breakfast, Lunch)

--Wake up and enjoy fresh coffee and continental western breakfast as the sun rises on your panoramic view of the Wall. The morning light can produce amazing photographs. At this time of day there are usually no other tourists on the wall, you have it to yourself. After breakfast, continue hike east from Jinshanling to Simatai Section of the Wall.
--Today's hike is a little difficult as the Wall running up and down the rang of the mountain. Some part of the wall is really steep and broken, be very careful. Picnic lunch in one of the beacon tower, while outside under the sun is really hot, inside the tower is always cool. A crystal lake at the bottom of the valley will welcome your at the end of the hike in Simatai. Your vehicle is waiting for you at the parking lot.
--Transfer back to where you start in the City, the end of the five days hiking tour.

(2)What we provide: Two picnic lunch, one dinner, one breakfast, at least 4 liter of water for drink on the way and cooking, some snacks.
(3)For the camping tour, our tour guide will help to set up the camp site. All the camping equipment will be transferred to camping site directly, so the participants don’t have to carry it while hiking. Our service persons will carry up the food for dinner and breakfast, the camping equipments and water for cooking. Continental western breakfast on the wall includes :pastries/breads, fruit, juice and fresh brewed coffee.
(4)What to wear: Spring is always windy and cool. Summer is always hot at noon and cool at night. While T-shirt and pants easily to dry are suitable for daytime trekking, trousers and jacket are necessary for the cool night and early morning. Autumn is the best season for hiking on the wall, sunny and cool during the day and breathtaking sun rising and setting view could be seen most probably. Winter is very cold and windy with snow and sunshine.
(5)There are local people selling bottled water and even Coco cola from Simatai to Jinshanling on Day2. They generally charge RMB 5 for each.
